If I had to single out some karate training aids that has made a big difference to students (and my) karate over the years, elastic tubes/cords/bands will certainly be amongst the top! It is inexpensive, interesting, enjoyable and help improve strength and speed when performing karate. One of the most important characteristics is that karate movement can be simulated with creating resistance with elastic tubes. Simulation of the movement you want to improve, underpins the specificity principle when it comes to physical exercise.

Find an extra firm elastic tube/band, cut in 3 – 4 meter lengths
Partner can hold the elastic, or elastic can be secured into a wall.
For Strength: User the elastic’s resistance
For Speed: Use the elastic to assist (move with it)
Exercise tube handles can be added for punching
