2024 – WA karate league and team. The stirling karate Australia journey started this year at the Australian open karate championships in Sydney. This is arguably the highest level tournament is sports karate in Australia in which clubs from other countries and also enter. This year Mackenzie and Leo went for the first time and Mackenzie came back to this tournament from a horrendous fall and managed to get a silver medal in kumite. Leo taught very well and came fourth despite being the youngest in his division. Stirling Karate is affiliated to the Australian karate Federation and to WA Karate. These are the sporting bodies for karate within Australia, which allows students to possibly make the WA Karate team across all styles of Karate as well as possibly be selected to represent Australia He he. they journey lead them there. This year we nominated eight students across development and elite potential selection evolved from a humble three competitors we had in 2023. This is a big transformative journey which I’m sure everybody that was involved will agree was an amazing experience not only in Karate improvement, but in the newly forged friendships and memories, nobody will ever forget. The involvement in the state squad consists of 10 training sessions prior to the nationals which this year was held in Geelong in this time, the students get exposed to some of the best coaches in the country as well as the best coaches in the state. The students also compete as a criteria in the state championships and WA league karate tournaments This year all eight students were nominated into the squad, made the state team and, traveled to Geelong in Victoria for three unforgettable days of karate. All our students were competitive and for some they pulled off some remarkable results Christopher Cox third and committee his respective age group Mackenzi third committee Lauren Gelme second in kumite Leo Prinsloo second in committee and his result got him selected into the team event where he also managed to pull off a second place with his team for children’s kumite. Senpai Zoran was also selected for the men’s team kumite where they managed to pull off a third place. WA Karate is known for their spirit and support of all athletes, big and small and we had many goosebumps moments throughout this trip. Our Friday competition squad training has really paid off this year in getting our students whether they were in the state team or not unto a standard that is very competitive allowing the students to excel in the WA Karate league tournaments we would like to congratulate everybody that has crossed the line into competing for the first time, putting themselves out there And giving competition karate a go. A special shout out to sensei Karin and Senpai Alison for the selfless commitment in helping to get the students where they need to be. As a group, we would also like to thank all the volunteers at the tournaments throughout the year. Since Karin in refereeing Peter Ghian in marshaling Trina Sparrow in table officialling and Jolie and Sam for being a managers, a.k.a. damages in the stands. Well done too to Senpai, Alison and Sensei Karen for achieving the bronze Australia, karate Federation coaching accreditation. A big thank you too to sensei Christelle and Senpai Debbie, who has started working with our students on the physical and developmental side to get our students where they need to be for next year.
